What we actually do

We want to be clear about our method. We're not a test lab, and we don't claim to be.

  • We use products where we can. Many picks are things our founder has used himself, often for years. When a pick comes from long-term use, the guide says so and says for how long.
  • We research. We read the specs, the materials and, where it matters, the science behind a product. We link what we read.
  • We compare. Every pick is weighed against the other products we considered. The guide names what else we looked at and why it lost.
  • We read what owners say. Reviews from real buyers help us spot problems that show up over time. We label that as owner feedback, not as our finding.

How we pick

  1. Set the criteria first. Before choosing, we decide what matters for that product: quality, materials, ease of use, how long it lasts and price.
  2. Narrow the field. We cut anything with clear problems or weak evidence behind it.
  3. Choose the pick. Usually one main pick, and sometimes a budget pick and an upgrade pick, each with who it's best for.
  4. Name the flaws. Every pick has a "flaws but not dealbreakers" section, and we say who should skip it.

What a guide includes

Our picks up front · why you can trust us · who it's for · how we chose · each pick in detail · what else we considered · when the guide was last updated.

Supplements and health products

We make factual claims only, about what's in a product and how it's made. We don't say a product treats, cures or prevents anything, or that it helps with weight loss. Supplement pages carry this statement: These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Talk with your doctor before taking a supplement, especially if you take medication.

Keeping picks current

We check every guide each quarter. When a new product comes out in a category we cover, it goes up against the current pick. The guide changes only if the new product wins.

Money never picks

Affiliate links never change a recommendation. If the best product has no affiliate program, it's still the pick. Read how we earn money.
